Bye Bye Beer
Going into the New Year, and the official start of my Road to 140 journey, I’m in far better shape than the beginning of 2018. I started last year at a whopping 185 pounds. After a weight loss plan, I managed to drop some excess pound. As I type, I’ve managed to keep the weight off and come in at 167 pounds. That’s a total loss of 18 pounds (8kg), which I’m pretty pleased about.
I have decided to keep off the beers for January and possibly even February. Hopefully this is not going to be too hard for me as I do love a good pint on a Friday! In fact, this week I was invited to my usual Friday lunch time beer but I declined and instead headed to the gym. That to me is the start of my commitment to achieving my Road to 140!
New Year’s Illness
I’ve had a bit of a cold and bad chest since New Year’s Eve. It’s almost gone now but it hasn’t helped me with my training one bit. I’ve tried to stay indoors as much as I can, hitting the gym whenever I felt motivated.
I also made progress on my bike! You might recall in my first blog that I had suffered a drunken shoulder injury? Well, this week saw me finally manage to get back on my bike indoors. It feels good to be riding again, albeit in a static position!
I’ve also managed three runs this week, which include a few 5ks, as well as some forest hill sprints! Not bad for a week where I’ve swapped the Lucozade for Lemsips…
Week 1 summary
Run: 7.7miles
Bike: 40 minutes turbo
Gym: 4 days at the gym, with workouts consisting of strengthening and weights
New surroundings
Next week I will be moving into a new flat in the city. I’m hoping that the move won’t get too much in the way of training as I have 6 days’ swimming, running and cycling to get on with!
As I anticipate the move to take up most of my time, I plan to schedule some more lunch time gym sessions using the weights. We’ll see what I can achieve as it’s going to be a long week, but once I move I will hopefully get back on the training path.
I also need to sit down and choose my races for this year with my coach.
My first one is probably going to be the Stafford Half Marathon in March, a race I’ve completed before and I typically enjoy. I’ve also committed to participating in the Outlaw 70.3 (triathlon A race), so I’ll be looking for a sprint and Olympic triathlon before. Any suggestions of good races are more than welcome!
